Dauntless Encourages Slaying With Friends (Or “Friends”) During Saint’s Bond Event https://ovongames.com/news/slaying-with-friends-during-saintsbond https://ovongames.com/storage/news-images/dauntless/dauntless_11256706.webp The couple that slays together, stays together. That could be the catchphrase for the Saint’s Bond event in Dauntless, which celebrates not just romantic love, but also the love between friends — who like to kill Behemoths for fun. The primary loot that’s up for grabs during the event is seven Saint’s Bond skins, one for each weapon. To earn one, you’ll have to slay 60 Behemoths before the event ends on Feb. 27. Sound like a lot? Well, here’s where the romance — or, if you prefer, bromance — comes in. You’ll earn double progress toward your weapon skin if you hunt with a friend, meaning you’ll only need 30 kills per skin. Personally, I think they should expand this to, shall we say, “larger” groups, if you’re into that sort of thing, letting you earn triple or quadruple progress. If you’re more in the “money can’t buy you love” category, don’t despair. Well, despair a little, know that someone still loves you and that you can purchase the Saint’s Bond skins in the cash shop. Other benefits to participating in the event: a free Hearts United flare, just for showing up, and the Saint’s Bond outfits, also available in the cash shop. Learn more about the event on the Dauntless site(https://playdauntless.com/news/saints-bond-contracts/) MagicDuel announces new interface launch and the beginning of a new game stage https://ovongames.com/news/magicduel-new-interface-launch https://ovongames.com/storage/news-images/magicduel/magicduel_703018201.webp (22 January 2020) MagicDuel, a unique browser game that will celebrate its 15th anniversary in April this year, released its new interface at the beginning of 2020. The game’s developer is currently donating $2 for every Crikeydile Sobek and He Bro He Bo skin purchase made throughout January to the Australian Red Cross. Of course, many players may already have these skins, so the Smite team encourages those that do, or those not interested in picking them up, to donate directly to the Red Cross via their website https://www.redcross.org.au/ Dota Underlords The Outlanders Update Introduces New Spirit Alliance https://ovongames.com/news/dota-underlords-the-outlanders-update https://ovongames.com/storage/news-images/dota-underlords/dota-underlords_680884084.webp Today, The Outlanders Update dropped for Valve’s strategy battler Dota Underlords. The update adds several new features and content, including the new Spirit Alliance and Void Spirit hero. The Void Spirit is a melee class Spirit Warlock with the ability to create portals and sneak up on opponents. He’s joined in the Spirit Alliance by the Storm Spirit, Ember Spirit, and Earth Spirit who can execute a special ability when on the board together. Also included in the update is a new member of the Dragon Alliance, the Dragon Inventor Snapfire. This new hero offers ranged support via a shotgun blast. If the Dragon Alliance is active on the board she can do even more with the help of her lizard mount’s fire globs. Aside from the new heroes and alliance, the update also adds a new mode — Knockout. In this mode, every player starts with five heroes, needing only two to combine. Leveling happens automatically every other round and each player can suffer four losses before being out of the game. All total, a game is expected to last about 10 minutes. The Lord of the Rings Online Minas Morgul Review In Progress https://ovongames.com/news/online-minas-morgul-review-in-progress https://ovongames.com/storage/news-images/lord-of-the-rings-online/lord-of-the-rings-online_1133793269.webp It’s been almost a month since The Lord of the Rings Online’s latest expansion, Minas Morgul hit the servers. Exploring the history of this cursed keep as well as continuing on the Epic storyline in the Black Book of Mordor so far has been an interesting notion for me. So how does it stack up thus far? Oh, and before you read any further, here’s your minor SPOILER WARNING. Minas Morgul’s main quest line, Book 11 of the Black Book of Mordor, doesn’t actually start in Mordor. Rather you find yourself hunting down the identity of a shade drifting around one of Middle-earth’s more infamous locations - the Gladden Fields. Finding out the identity of the shade - an important figure in all of Middle-earth Lore, you’ll actually find yourself traveling back to the Second Age, learning about the Shade’s story through a massive flashback sequence that takes place during the long siege of Barad-dur. It’s nice to jump into ages past in Middle-earth’s history - and that’s honestly one of the great strengths of Standing Stone Games, the developers of The Lord of the Rings Online. With so much material to pull from - yet also so much room for creative license - the team behind LotRO has been able to create some memorable stories and experiences over their twelve years behind the helm of one of the world’s most beloved franchises. League Of Legends Reveals New Champion For Those Really Looking For A Challenge https://ovongames.com/news/league-of-legends-reveals-new-champion https://ovongames.com/storage/news-images/league-of-legends/league-of-legends_252801243.webp League of Legends is introducing a new Champion, and if you just watch the trailer you’re probably going to walk away thinking, “Okay. Cool. He’s got five badass weapons to switch between.” As it turns out, it’s a bit more complex than that. Today, Riot Games revealed Aphelios — otherwise referred to as “The big brain, sad moon boi” — not only with a trailer but also two rather lengthy posts. One is the champion insight post which details his design process and lore. The other is the kit primer, which covers his five weapons and their related abilities. According to the insight post, he has approximately 30 abilities in all. For those that enjoy complete control over their champions, it seems Aphelios might not ideal. The information offered talks about giving up control over what weapons are in use and trusting a voice telling you what to do. That voice is apparently Aphelios’ twin sister Alune. Effectively, Alune will be making the decision about what weapons Aphelios will be using in combat and when. Due to the complexity of this character’s design, Riot apparently intends to use the first two posts about him to help players determine if he’s for them. The idea seems to be that if you can’t be bothered to read through them completely, and possibly a few times when it comes to the kit primer, Aphelios probably isn’t going to be a champion you want to deal with. The best way to find out is to look over the insight post and the kit primer on the LoL site. Indie MMO Inferna Starts Early Access On Steam December 6 https://ovongames.com/news/inferna-starts-early-access-on-steam https://ovongames.com/storage/news-images/inferna/inferna_1549807619.webp After three years of development, indie team Inferna Limited is nearing the release of its MMO Inferna on Steam and mobile devices. The cross-platform takes players to the world of Pangeau, where things are not as nice as they once were and the kingdoms that are left will need to be protected from the darkness. Players can choose between four classes and even choose what kingdom they will call home. There are two to choose from. Based on the game’s description on Steam, the game seems very PvE-centric with a focus on quests and stories. Those interested in checking the game out don’t have long to wait. The Steam early access is slated to launch on December 6. Prior to that, players can register for the game or join its Discord channel via the main site. New Star Trek Online Store Items Offers Pricey, And Potentially Illegal, “Sales” https://ovongames.com/news/new-star-trek-online-store-items https://ovongames.com/storage/news-images/new-star-trek-online/new-star-trek-online_1493607446.webp In the original Star Trek series, Harry Mudd was described by Captain Kirk using the words “thief,” “swinder,” “con man,” “liar,” and “rogue.” Such colorful descriptors might make him the kind of person you wouldn’t want as a mascot for your store in a free-to-play game, but that’s just what Perfect World Entertainment and Cryptic Studio have done with the recently implemented “Mudd’s Store” in Star Trek Online, which has resulted in players using even less complimentary language than Kirk. Mudd’s Store offers a variety of items — straight up, no loot boxes — ranging in price from 1,000 Zen to 3,500 Zen, or $10 to $35. While players are a little miffed at those costs, what’s gotten them even more riled up than a bunch of bloodthirsty Klingons is that those are supposed “sale” prices, all at 75% off. This would put the “real” prices at $40 (for a holographic bridge officer) to $140 (for the Tier 6 Vizier Command Assault Cruiser), price tags that would put even a Ferengi to shame. While players initially thought that the “real” prices were a joke, playing off Mudd’s reputation as a shady huckster (“It’s actually $40, but for you? I’ll knock it down to $10!”), Cryptic has confirmed that yes, the items will be at those higher prices after their “sale” is over. How long that will be is as yet unknown, and there are some rumblings from angry fans that consumer laws may have been broken, as several countries require an item to be offered at a “regular” price for a time before going on sale. Whether or not any illegal acts have been committed, it’s clear that players’ feathers have been ruffled by the pricing and dubious “sales.” Whether that will result in Cryptic changing anything is up for debate. In either case, the prices are probably not that far off from what players should have expected from non-loot-box-gated gear, which I crunched the numbers on a while back. And for a game like STO, which relies heavily on loot boxes for its income, the numbers might be expected to be slanted even higher — though $140 a ship still doesn’t come close to matching the excesses of something like Star Citizen. Battleborn Shutting Down In Early 2021 https://ovongames.com/news/battleborn-shutting-down https://ovongames.com/storage/news-images/battleborn/battleborn_2064402436.webp When we last reported on Battleborn in September 2017, it was to pass along the news from Gearbox Software that the game would no longer receive content updates but would still remain online “until the foreseeable future.” That future is a bit more foreseeable now, as Battleborn’s servers will be going dark in early 2021. 2K Games, which publishes Battleborn, announced nearly two weeks ago — who says bad news travels quickly? — that Battleborn’s servers will shut down in January 2021. That will make all aspects of the game unplayable, including not only PvP but also the single-player campaign. While the popular narrative is that Battleborn was doomed from the start, the game actually performed reasonably well upon its launch in May 2016 — three weeks before Overwatch, to which it was inevitably compared. While its numbers, at least on Steam, probably weren’t quite as high as Gearbox had hoped, it still managed to keep several hundred players online at a time, though that had eroded to barely 100 by the time it went free-to-play in June 2017. After an initial surge to 1,561 players, it barely cracked 100 afterward. If you still want to play, you’ll have to do it mostly without premium currency, as the ability to buy Platinum will be disabled on February 24, 2020, or about two months from now. You can still spend what you’ve got on what’s in the store, though, and you’ve got plenty of time to do it. Best wishes, G'n'M Team Guild Wars 2 Icebrood Saga Whispers in the Dark Preview https://ovongames.com/news/icebroodsagawhispersinthedarkpreview https://ovongames.com/storage/news-images/guild-wars-2/guild-wars-2_642007637.webp Today is the launch of the next season of living story content for Guild Wars 2, Icebrood Saga. However, aside from being the next chapter of the story for Guild Wars 2, this update also brings with it some features we have previously only received with paid expansions. Last week I had the opportunity to check out this new update ahead of release and not only experience the story firsthand, but to also poke around the new map a bit. So let’s dive right in and discuss some of the exciting things arriving today. I’m also going to steer clear of any story spoilers that weren’t shown in the trailer. We start by returning to check on how things have been going since we were forced to retreat at the end of the prologue. Unfortunately, we find the keep deserted and must start a search for our friends. This search takes us into the new map Bjorn Marches, though it should probably be called Bjorn Tundra because it’s much more of a frozen wasteland than anything else. Seriously there’s an ice storm that’s continuously going so not only is it snowy and covered in snow, but it’s also sort of hard to find your way around at first. One of the most exciting aspects of this episode is the whispers everyone hears throughout the episode. These whispers are consistently clawing at each character’s most closely held worries and their own perceived failings. Of course, some characters are more susceptible to this than others, but it was fascinating to see how each handles these moments. Aside from hearing their reactions, there is also a visual which happens to indicate when they hear the voice in their head. These are small moments for the most part, but it goes a long way towards continuing their story arcs. Especially certain characters we haven’t known for long. The Mastery system has also been expanded with the addition of this chapter to include masteries to make use of the new resistance system. These mastery tracks use a new type of mastery point, similar to how expansions worked previously. There are three different resistances that players gather from various mobs on the map. Each resistance is related to a type of creature, and every resistance is strong and weak against another resistance. ArenaNet did a great job of outlining the system in this blog post for a more in-depth look at the system. The new campaign will be supported alongside the original Path of Exile, and players worried that the expansions and updates that have made Path great will be lost with PoE 2 can rest assured - those will all be carried over to the new version when it launches. Still, ways out, Path of Exile 2 will bring major changes to the ARPG, such as new classes, item, and gem changes and more. Leagues and content released with the original Path of Exile will carry over with Path of Exile 2, and even the original game will be continually updated alongside the new version. Path of Exile 2 will also bring with it one of the more requested features from players: Shapeshifting. While the campaign and the new skill system will be added on launch day, some of the quality of life improvements and new mechanics will find themselves added to the game over the next year while the 3.9 and beyond updates hit Path of Exile moving forward. ExileCon is in full swing here in Auckland, New Zealand, and you can catch all the announcements and excitement via the Livestream, which we've embedded below. We'll be able to go hands-on with Path of Exile 2 and will be sure to let you know how it is over the weekend! Blade & Soul’s Golden Harvest Festival Is Back Next Week https://ovongames.com/news/blade-souls-goldenharvestfestivalback https://ovongames.com/storage/news-images/blade---soul---s/blade---soul---s_38553550.webp On November 13, Blade and Soul‘s fall event will return, giving players a full month to earn all kinds of special rewards. During the event, players will earn Harvest Dinners for every day they log in — one for free players, three for premium members. Dinners can also be earned for completing one of four quests. Players can also pick up additional dinners by completing Mushin’s Darkness on Floor 8 of Mushin’s Tower and earning the Festive Feast Bag. When players have accumulated enough Harvest Dinners, they can trade them in at the Dragon Express. Of course, the better items do require a good bit of Harvest Dinners to acquire. But, even if you only have one dinner, you can pick up something — that something being a Fortune Potion. During this event, players can also earn double rewards for defeating Koldrak and completing “The Dragon’s Lair” daily. And, to round things out, players can also take part in a special game — Treasure Draw — where they’ll use keys acquired from the Hongmooon Store to pick numbers on a game board for a chance to win prizes. Details on both of these as well as a list of prizes are available on the Blade & Soul site. Bandai Namco is kicking off the game’s open beta event today on the Xbox One. The open beta launch includes the game’s latest update which increases the player level cap to 30 and provides access to a total of nine zones — four of them previously unavailable. Players who make their way through the storyline will be rewarded with “The Crescent Moon” Blessing. Those who participate in the Open Open Beta will also receive the title “Breaker of Games” as well as a 7-Day Valor Perk bonus granting in-game currency and XP boosts if they return for the game’s launch in 2020. As always, the open beta update does include a wide selection of technical improvements across all systems. However, this still being beta, there are issues that the dev team is aware of. All of these are listed in the patch notes on the Bless Unleashed site. Reputation requirements for Nazjatar and Mechagon vendor-sold Essences have been reduced from Honored/Revered/Exalted for ranks 1/2/3 to Friendly/Honored/Revered. The acquisition of Rank 4 of these Essences is unchanged. The follower experience requirements for Ranks 2 and 3 of Memory of Lucid Dreams have been reduced from 3000/6000 to 2400/4800. Players who are Revered with their respective Nazjatar reputation may now exchange Manapearls for Bind-to-Account reputation tokens. Blizzard states that their goal is the “lessen the effort needed” to acquire these essences for both new players and veterans alike. These changes will be testable in a new update to Visions of N’Zoth PTR in a few weeks’ time. With this update, we have two new dungeons - one for lower levels, and a new dungeon storyline for max level wizards! Along with these two new dungeons - we also have new event updates, a new spellwrighting upgrade system, improvements to the hatchmaking kiosk, and several other new features! There’s a lot to go over, so keep on reading for all the details on this test realm! (As a note, there will be some spoilers to the storyline of these dungeons - so if you haven’t ran these proceed with caution!) First off is the big content of the update - two new dungeons! For wizards level 15 and over, you can head over to that Olde Town drain that has been of much examination by the NPCs - and start an adventure into the sewers! Along the way, you’ll get a sneak peek into some familiar faces that may or may not appear in the other dungeon, and encounter a very dapper ant sporting a tuxedo! This update covers something that was brought up in Vegas about CCP’s plans for the tutorial and new player experience. The goal is to throttle new player attrition, as exemplified by this chart, which was shown at EVE North in Toronto back in June. At Vegas, the presentation about new player retention showed some of the things the had already done to make the tutorial better… and there were some serious “fix the stupid” items fixed… as well as some of their upcoming plans. One item on the list was a special login reward campaign for new players. This campaign is set to offer rewards to encourage new players to log in again the next day. I do not know what the rewards are, and the tentative nature of the patch note entry leads me to believe that the company is going to tinker with those rewards as time goes on, but CCP said they would be useful for new players.
